Aston Martin DB11 Volante

Nov 13, 2018 | NAVIS October / November 2018

A Look Inside Another Aston Martin Masterpiece

Since 1913, Aston Martin has worked diligently to establish itself as one of the premier auto manufacturers in the entire world. The company has maintained a stellar reputation due to their innovative thinking, attention to detail, and ability to design luxury cars that combine the best of the old with the best of the new. Unsurprisingly, the release of the absolutely magnificent DB11 Volante has already earned a significant amount of praise from automobile enthusiasts everywhere.
Aston Martin first launched their DB11 series of automobiles in 2016 in an effort to replace the well-respected DB9. Though expectations for the auto manufacturer were certainly quite high from the very beginning, the beautiful form and excellent function of the DB11 makes it clear that these expectations were not just met, but triumphantly exceeded. To quote Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, “if you’re ever in Paris, at a party at 3 AM, and suddenly remember you are playing in a tennis tournament in Monte Carlo the next afternoon, this is the car for the job.”

A Convertible that Also Performs

The DB11 is claimed to be the most powerful “DB” series in Aston Martin’s extensive history. The DB11 Volante is the convertible version of the car, first launched in 2018. When designing the Volante, it appears that one thing remained abundantly clear throughout the entirety of the design process: despite the physical complications associated with designing a convertible, Aston Martin refused to allow any sacrifices to performance along the way.
The car features a 4.0-liter M177 twin-turbo V8 engine—this happens to be the exact same engine that you will find in the DB11 V8 coupe, though the Volante features a notably larger amount of torque (513 lb. x ft.). The engine is capable of yielding up to 503 horse power, which is one of the many reasons that this particular vehicle is able to accelerate and maintain its speed with such grace.

Furthermore, the performance figures for the DB11 Volante are absolutely astounding. The vehicle is capable of accelerating up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour in a matter of 4.1 seconds. The top speed of 301 kilometers (187 miles) per hour results in an exceptionally thrilling experience for drivers and passengers alike.
As is the case with all Aston Martin vehicles, there was a considerable amount of testing and research involved in order to assure that Volante’s performance could satisfy even the highest of expectations. The vehicle is capable of handling most hairpin turns with grace (even effectively accelerating while turning when necessary) and maintaining a smooth ride on relatively steep inclines. Being able to experience a ride in this masterpiece—whether you are in the Alps, elsewhere in Europe, or anywhere else in the world—is undeniably an absolute delight.
